The Unity
The Unity

Here is a briefing on the debut album by German power metal group The Unity. The members of The Unity are no strangers to the metal scene. Many of you may recognize the players. Michael and Henjo have been ripping things up over the years with the almighty Gamma Ray while Jogi, Stefan, Sascha, and Jan have all done their time with Love.Might.Kill as well as many others.

So with a group of musicians with such a background, one might expect a great album. Right? So many times members from various musical circles get together and form ‘super groups’ just to put out a dull or tired set of songs. Oops, sorry, squirrel moment. Right! THE UNITY is a great album. Don’t get me wrong here, the 12 tracks are all very memorable and rock out with the best of ‘em. I do want to mention that even though The Unity’s debut is a great album, there is no reinventing of the wheel so to speak. What they do offer are 12 very well written and performed tracks that really surprised me. I say it like that due to the fact that going into this album; I just knew this was the debut, and nothing else about the band. It left me with that wow feeling. That is something that rarely happens on a first listen.

The Unity is classified on various sites as power metal. I guess that will work. They do have many of those moments, but I also hear other genres. There are many times their sound is being just a good ‘ole fashioned hard rock band. I do suppose that genre defining is truly in the ear of the beholder. I would not want to pigeon hole The Unity. If this is going to be an actual band and not just a project, we will all surely be hearing a lot more from them for many years to come.
