Released: 2002, Black Lotus
It is time for a little round-up of some of the release from late 2002 on the respected Greek label, Black Lotus. Known for championing extreme styles over the years they have unleashed another four releases which I will touch on each briefly. They include new discs by The Duskfall, Scent of Flesh, Greek Black Metal super-group Thou Art Lord and the return of Horrified! Thou Art Lord is the on again, off again Greek Black Metal super-group featuring ex-current members of such bands as Necromantia, Rotting Christ and Septic Flesh. They are back with the first disc in seven years as they wanted to produce a raw and primeval album.
As with past release the Satanic overtones are clearly evident and a heavy focus on the sexual aspect of the religion of self-indulgence! This is reflected in the lyrics in many places as well. The packaging is gorgeous with many renders of females in various states of undress and so on. Full lyrics, notes and awesome art makes this a thing of evil beauty to behold.
The band crushes all with nine short tracks of blasphemous black and death metal switching between styles with ease. We have chugging riffs at times, then some blast-beats, then some growls, then some shrieks…this is all over the extreme metal map. I could have done without the hints of nu-metal however, the vocal cadence in parts of ‘Baphomet’s Meteor’ were just annoying. There are a few touches of background choruses and or keyboards but for the most part it is pretty straight ahead. The whole album has a fairly loose and ready to rumble rock ’n’ roll feel to it. Very enjoyable!
