The Stone
October 2014
Released: Octo, Folter Records
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: UK Team

Serbian Black Metal veterans The Stone have released NEKROZA, their seventh studio album. These guys appear to be the most renowned act in Serbia and I praise them for keeping the scene alive in a nation with such a war torn history.

An old school black metal sound prevails over ‘Kamenolom’ and ‘Kosmar’ showcasing the group’s nihilistic agenda at its most raw and vile. ‘Crno Zrno’ and ‘Dani Crni’ contain elements of thrash metal, such as galloping drums and raging guitar chords. I got the impression that this what you’d find if you crossed Taake with Cryptic Slaughter and that’s certainly entertaining.

‘Lov na Vestice’ is also very gritty and made me see this album as quite a daring release as it contains all the right elements of the genres that prelude black metal. ‘Sunovrat’ and ‘Mrak’ have an Emperor and My Dying Bride sound going on and I began to view the songs as a raging fire pace of evil. Anguish and misanthropy delivered in a creeping barrage of sound that feels like a knife is being twisted slowly in your guts.

I thoroughly enjoyed this release as it is raw, angry and knows what a tirade of anger towards humanity and the world sounds like. Something that ticks all the right boxes and stands as a very strong representation of the Serbian metal scene.
