The Project Hate
September 2001
Released: 2001, Massacre Records
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: Arto Lehtinen

Hmm the side project band by the Grave/Entombed gubbe Jorg Sandstrom. Well the stuff has nothing do with the deathrock stuff a’la Entombed or the nihilistic brutal death metal of which Grave was known for. Instead Jorg has developed a different and entire new musical approach to carry out this project band. The stuff could be described some kind of industrial based material added with Jorg’s wellknown growling delivery, but ain’t that deep as on the Grave albums. Besides Jorg’s deathly growling the female vocalist has been added to give more softer and warmer perspective and approach to the stuff, but somehow I would have rather listened more to the female vocals than Jorg’s growling, hah. In a way or another I could find the same common things between The Project Hate and Pain, as both the bands started out as projects and then use a lot of electro and even techno elements and vibes in the music. Whereas Pain’s material is more softer based on the commercial approach to get more mainstream attention and of course Peter’s voice ain’t that “deathly”, whereas Project Hate has partly a lot of heavy parts in the song structure of MCMXCIX and of course the female vocals. But in the long run the stuff starts sounding more or less monotonous and boring and I am pretty much sure this album won’t roll on the cd player as a few times and ends up to the collection to gather the dust.
