Tapping the Vein
July 2002
Released: 2002, Revolution Entertainment
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: Rick

My introduction to Tapping the Vein was at Metal Meltdown III. Myself and EvilG walked in half way through their set but were interrupted by Snake from to attend a press conference. We didn’t get to hear very much of the music but it reminded me of bands like Lacuna Coil and The Gathering. The full length Cd was released in April and I have a sampler here in front of me containing 3 songs from this Philadelphia band. The tracks included are “Sugar Falls”, “The Ledge ( the code noir club mix)” and “The Ledge”. The label, Revolution Entertainment, is actually a subsidiary of Nuclear Blast. Now for the fun part. How to label this band? I will have to say that they are not metal, hence on the subsidiary label. “Sugar Falls” is a trippy track that blends gothic metal and rock and highlights the vocals of Heather Thompson. I will have to say that the remix of “The Ledge” doesn’t do much for me. It follows the normal remix formula of throwing on a dance beat and some distortion and that to me takes away from the song. The original version is much better and is slightly heavier than the lead off track.

With a new CD out named THE DAMAGE Tapping the Vein are set to move to the next level. Formed in 1995 in Chicage TTV is made up of Eric Fisher - drums, sampling, & programming, Joe Rolland - bass Mark Burkert - guitar and Heather Thompson - voice. Though they have some metallic elements they are not metal which doesn’t take away from the fact that they are good. the songs are well done and the atmosphere is excellent. Already Tapping the Vein are creating waves in Europe, I can see why..
