The Man From The Moon
Rocket Attack
September 2008
Released: 2008, Black Mark Records
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: Waspman

Allow me to be clear from the start: ROCKET ATTACK is NOT metal. At all. It’s ‘80s-styled hard rock.

With that established I can say that The Man From The Moon is the project of one Micke Moberg, and he plays and sings everything on the album. As I said, this album is a throwback to more ‘80s-type sounds, with guitars used more for colour and shade than actual power, the focus instead on the melodies and hooks. Think The Cult, a less gutter-fried Hanoi Rocks and other similar non-glam bands from the ‘80s. Make no mistake though – the cheese factor is high on this album. The chiming keyboards on “Revolution” will be enough to turn most people off without hearing anything else on the album.

Still, I think that would be missing the point. This is an album that’s meant for enjoyment – and by that I mean just to put it on, sit back, and relax to the music. This isn’t heavy, and while the lyrics are actually more intelligent than your average ‘80s band, I get the impression that Moberg just wants us to enjoy ROCKET ATTACK as an escape.

Although there are some truly cringe-worthy moments (“Dance Mamma” is hideous), any fan of pure rock music will find something to like on this album. While it is a frozen relic of another era, it’s still an entertaining listen.
