The London Quireboys
This Is Rock And Roll
October 2001
Released: 2001, Sanctuary Records
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: Pete

THIS IS ROCK AND ROLL is a return to familiar territory for the Quireboys. If you're an admirer of the band, you'll be happy to hear that they've returned to that old blue's based rock and roll swagger that got them much attention with 1990's A BIT OF WHAT YOU FANCY. Spike's voice sounds more booze-soaked than ever, as he cruises through the 13 tracks on this disc. "Seven Days" would vocally make Rod Stewart jealous, while "Taken For A Ride" is a throwback to early 70's Stones. "To Be" is eerily similar to Zepplins' "Since I've Been Loving You", as "Show Me What You Got", the first single to Canadian radio, jams along with it's southern rock overtones. THIS IS ROCK AND ROLL won't be the top metal pick of 2001, but it's a damn good rock and roll record.
