The Grim Sweeper
Blood of Odin
Released: 2012, N/A

The Grim Sweeper is the solo project of Marcus Matusiak; guitarist of power metal band Powermajus and formerly keyboard player of melodic death metal band Matron. Originally starting as a largely improvised busking project in London UK, Marcus decided to put down some of his better ideas on record and take some time to write some more structured lead parts and solos. The result is his debut release "Blood of Odin". The Grim Sweeper is currently working on his second release.
I have heard both of Marcus’ previous releases from Matron and Powermajus and was excited to hear what he has recently released and I pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest.
Marcus is known for writing some great material in the past for his previous bands and it’s great to see him doing his own solo project, truly showing his talents with every song written, performed and produced by himself.
With a beautiful intro to Track 1 ‘Time of Ancient Gods’, the song sounds like the beginning of a soundtrack, until the sounds of the electric guitar kick in, making you not even realise there aren’t any vocals to this album. Track 4; ‘The Spectral Hunt’ was one of my personal favourites, with a blow horn reminding me of battles in Lord of the Rings, with Track 5 ‘Spirits of Dead Warriors' Jig’ following nicely with a catchy melody, and I’m sure I heard the sounds of growling then?!
Track 6 ‘6. Valhalla's Feast’ goes back to the style of the first song, ending the album nicely making you feel you’ve just ended a quest or been on an epic adventure!
Every track is individual and unique, with amazing guitar riffs and catchy melodies throughout.
This debut album release clearly demonstrates the talents of Marcus Matusiak, and for someone who loves deep metal vocals and growls, I have to admit this album held its own and is one album I would be happy to chill out to at home and needs to be listened to!
An Epic and Pure Classic Metal Release…loved it!
