Time's Makin' Changes-The Videos & More (DVD)
Released: 1995, Geffen
Some of the lower budget, contractual obligation video collections just have the videos. This one has a little bit more but it still essentially a generic package.
TIMES MAKING CHANGES is a single disc DVD with 16 videos from the bands first five albums, namely the Geffen years. Thankfully they run chronologically and the menu is pretty straight-forward, no frills. There is a 4-page booklet with just the basic information.
The one feature that adds value is that inter-spliced between the videos is old interview footage. The sub-title is ‘The videos and More’ so I guess the interview segments are the ‘more’ part. There just little clips here and there that add a bit more back-story and probably add up to 10-15 minutes total. The whole video runs about 90 minutes and there is not much more to say. The charismatic blues-based, melodic, Hard Rockers often got unfairly lumped into the ‘Hair Metal’ tag and watching those old videos really reinforces the superior song-writing and performances of the band.
Like many of these standard video collections, I love the tunes, enjoy the videos but in terms of packaging and presentation they are all pretty much the same. Rating on this on the music alone, I would rate it way higher but in terms of a DVD, it’s your average major label video collection with a dull cover.
