Spirit Adrift
Chained to Oblivion
November 2016
Released: 2016, Prosthetic Records
Rating: 3.5/5

Metal is Life. A statement never truer when finding out about Nate Garrets journey through America’s underground metal scene. This one man band has put his heart and soul into this album and soldiers on with a determination to continue to do what he loves best, making music and crafting heavy metal into a sonic implosion.

Spirit Adrift may be a result of some deep soul searching and some unspecified heaviness in his personal situation but its by no means melancholy. First impression is that the production on the album is top notch, especially for just one guy and i really respect him for what he has produced. Personal friends with doom band Pallbearer you can hear the association in Garret’s music but it also stands on its own two feet. The opening track, Psychic Tide slowly builds and hits you with wave upon wave of riff filled sound. Title track Chained to Oblivion and Hum of Our Existence roll into one another and round off a solid 5 track doom outing.

Nothing wholly ground breaking here or new just more of the same doomy epicness. One to watch though.
