Last First Contact
Released: 2015, Occidental Records

Last First Contact is the debut offering from London based Death/Doom metal band Spectral Darkwave who formed in 2012 and it looks like the apocalypse is happening now. In their words “Last First Contact will unleash a journey into the many hells of mankind, with each song forming an exhibit in the grotesque gallery of human endeavour. The album weaves a tapestry of horror wrought on the cries of bereft mothers, nuclear strikes and epic orchestral flourishes.”
It's quite a aggressive listen, starting with a dramatic synth into, and moving into some rather heavy guitars with guttural vocals that drag you into the destruction and desolation that they mean to portray. Add in some interesting samples in between the heaviness and guitar solo's and you feel the
pain. The slower tempo parts are mostly non vocal but you don't really notice much when listening as it's mostly heavy.
All in all a great album. These guys are invading the Fiddlers Elbow in London on April 9th and The Castle in Luton on April 11th. Next stop? The Universe.
