Sonic Orchid
Love & War
October 2008
Released: 2008, Independent
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: Celtic Bob

Sonic Orchid incorporate elements of metal, power pop and basic rock n’ roll into their music to create a dynamic sound that borders on a couple different genres. The most prominent style being Melodic Hard Rock which is a fairly accurate description of the CD.

The music on this CD is quite enjoyable to listen to but somewhat difficult to categorize. All of the songs have great melodies and catchy chorus’ especially “Hold On” with its simple beats and chugging guitar sound. The keyboard and guitar mixed together during the solo is interesting as it almost sounds as though they are one instrument. The song “Chaos” starts out with a wicked high scream from singer Christine before going into this power metal like track. Several times throughout this track she belts out the same notes. While on the song “Without You” it is basically just her and a piano to create the tone of the song. Her voice works extremely well here as well and these two totally different style songs are the highlights of the album. The album closer is the other ballad of the disc and is styled similar to the classic 80’s power ballad.

A few great moments that makes the album worth checking out.
