Sapiency
Fate's End
June 2011
Released: 2010, Indie Rating: 2.5/5 Reviewer: JP Sapiency is a new, young band out of Germany. Their independent debut came out late in 2010. The guys play a decent mix of melodic thrash with some modern tendencies. It has a lot of the elements I enjoy, powerful vocals, punchy production, and decent drumming. They also mix in a few keyboard flourishes as well which is nice. On the downside the gruff/clean vocal mix has never been my favorite and the break-downs leave a sour taste. It’s certainly heavy as hell in places and the songs are OK but some of the spoken/barked staccato vocals cadences, almost bordering on rap leave me cold like those heard on cuts like, ‘Good Time to Lie’. The more I hear this the more I think the keyboards save this from being completely average, and that may not necessarily be a good thing, if you don’t like keyboards in your metal. Not much in the way of soloing but the guitars crunch along nicely. This might seem like a bit of a short, boring review but there isn’t too much to talk about. I wasn’t blown away but I liked it enough to discuss the band and support them. Recommended for fans of Soilwork, In Flames, Arch Enemy and so on. Talented and well executed these guys have potential. ![]()
