Smokey Fingers
Promised Land
November 2016
Released: Sept, Tanzan music
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Metal-Rules.com UK Team

This is one of those albums where you put the CD on and presume that the band have flown out of the wings of the desert in southern America. Nope! the land of classical music and not exactly a hub of classic deep south rock...Italy.

The album takes a mixture of catchy, party-like song to sing along songs such as "Black madame" and "Damage is done". To slower more diner than stadium rock tracks such as "the road is my home".

“Promised land” is the much anticipated follow up to “Columbus Way” which was released five years ago. An album which brings to life the hopes and dreams on a larger and more realistic scale deriving from many personal experiences giving the album a more brighter and fresher sound in respect to their previous works. Many songs on the album were written from Italy to the USA based on an experience of backpacking and travelling so as to live the American reality.

Once again, the band collaborated with their good friend and producer Mario Percudani, owner of the Tanzan Studio where the album was recorded. Special guests on the album include Anchise Bolchi, Paolo Apollo Negri, Marcella Casciaro e Sara Matera. The hard work of writing and putting the songs together demonstrate what an incredibly talented band Smokey Fingers are, showing their love and sound for Southern Rock and delivering riffs and vocals that will not disappoint. The rural sound, long solos, the slide guitar are very present and are very well worked in " Promised Land" which is only the bands second album, if this is where they have set the bar, let's hope the next one is as phenomenal!

Overall the album is delivered with a real dive bar attitude, sounding like a mixture between the southern chills of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the smoke halos of any southern biker bar.

Smokey Fingers have an authentic southern rock/country rock sound that puts some of their American contemporary counterparts to shame. ‘Promised Land’ is proof that there’s quality southern rock in northern Italy!
