Somnambulist
The Paranormal Humidor
November 2001
Released: 2001, The Lasers Edge
Rating: 2.5/5
Reviewer: Pete

Man, I didn't think anyone made progressive rock like this anymore. If you were or are a fan of 70's progressive rock bands such as Yes or Emerson Lake and Palmer, then Tennessee's Somnambulist are for you. Layered vocals, odd time signatures, lots of keyboards and tracks that are 7-8 minutes long. Everything 70's prog rock was about, but with the production of 2001.Only their second release since forming in '93, the band has seen members come and go, but seem to have solidified a line-up since '99. "Pathos of Least Resistance" bleeds of Yes, especially the layered vocals of Peter Cornell (yup, Chris Cornell's brother), while "Troy Built Helen" is so busy at times, it's almost tiring. The title track closes the CD in a more relaxed atmosphere, almost gelling the project together. All in all, a solid effort, but only for those who really appreciate this style of music.
