Snaggletooth is one of those sorta fun “joke” bands who pride themselves on being amusing and light-hearted, but churn out some pretty decent riffage in the process. There’s really no way you can dislike albums like this, and while they won’t end up on anyone’s best-of-the-year list, the bands that do this kind of thing are often highly underrated.
Snaggletooth is a band of thrash-influenced metal dudes apparently from the Rochester, New York area. Their album has a heavy, groove-infused sound, not unlike certain New Orleans bands. It’s slow, sludgey, yet often with a traditional thrash edge. Beyond that it’s difficult (and useless) to try to pigeonhole their style. The songs they serve up are fairly consistent, thick with good riffs, angry vocals and amusing titles and lyrics such as “Gnawgahyde,” “Dial I for Incest,” “Pedophile Mile” and “Cum on my Face.” Much of the material sounds as raw and unproduced as if it was recorded live in some smoky club at two in the morning. You have to admire a band that puts out this kind of a record, unafraid to show us both their strengths and their shortcomings.
Beyond this there’s not much more to say about Snaggletooth. If you’re in for this kind of thing, contact them at 2266 Westside Drive, Rochester, NY 14624 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
