Sickening Horror
May 2015
Released: 2015, Deepsend Records
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: Helias Papadopoulos

Sickening Horror is one of the greatest progressive death metal acts from Greece. They are back with a new deadly strike, OVERFLOW, spilling over from the acid prog death anthems.

OVERFLOW contains deceptively complex, deliberately paced, songs that drop into eerie atmospherics or let warped guitar leads ring out alone, always shifting texture but pushing forwards a main theme. Speaking of theme, the melodic style shown here is fantastic - it's ethereal and menacing, with some psychedelic/spacey vibes evoked by the weird intervals. The sparseness of the album just makes the aesthetic even more powerful, making it seem like you're floating in space in near-total darkness.

Highly inspiring pieces, incredible power and music that does not lose at any point the brutal death side of its character in the name of "technique". The performance of the musicians is exemplary and has nothing but envy from colleagues abroad. We all worship them here, and the same applies to the flawless production.

Keeping all the goods of Death, Sickening Horror tried and managed to perform a very good prog death keeping the death flag up. Truly a diamond disc that challenges you to discover its charms and perverse beauty. If children find an equally good drummer to replace glue and continue in this pattern, comfortable admit them as one of the best Greek death bands.
