Based on a True Story
April 2016
Released: 2016, Rock Of Angels Records
Rating: 5.0/5
Reviewer: UK Team

SHOTGUNZ have performed all over their home land Greece, sharing the stage with many renowned musicians like Gus G and Prassein Aloga among others. “Based on a True Story” is defiantly my recommended album of the year! Shotgunz are classified as heavy metal but have a strong stoner and blues feel to many of their tracks, front man Johnny Bakas vocals are deep and gritty in all the right ways, at times he sounds haunted and has almost a mix of Eddie Vedder and Johnny Cash feel to it. Mixed with the perfectly mixed heavy and melodic music they have formulated a perfect sound to cover all moods, lyrically they may have struck gold, any song people can relate to is bound to attract a huge fan base, they achieve this with every track on 'based on a true story'

I don't feel I can do justice to this album in just how good it actually is, I could go through track by track and though I have selected a couple to highlight, it is one of very few albums that from start to finish is musically and lyrically flawless. The drummer builds the music perfectly the guitarists carry each track as well as any of the greats and vocally Bakas is the glue that holds it all together is a perfect package of musical greatness. Liarz is a great cross over track, for 'those' friends that don't get good music on a normal day, yes, I have a couple of those friends (like a guilty pleasure of secretly liking a 90s boy band) they liked this album but loved the track Liarz, so if you rock and metal fans out there are trying to slowly convert your 'chart pop' friends this album is the cookie to draw them to the 'dark side'.

Moreover they take you on such a beautiful journey with this album ending with 'my love iz not a crime' the perfect slow dance track without the cheese of an 80s teen movie. Currently performing in Greece and looking to extend their fan base to the UK they are a band to look out for as I feel they may be performing in the UK soon.
