Death Metal (Book Review)
Released: 2008, Zonda Books
This is essentially a revised of Editions of Sharpe-Younge’s 2001 book A-Z OF DEATH METAL. Apparently there was a bit of an issue with the UK publisher and so Garry decided to publish in New Zealand with Zonda under the MusicMight (formerly Rockdetector) banner. I highly recommend you read my review of THE A-Z OF DEATH METAL to get a full perspective on the two books.
This title rechristened simply DEATH METAL, was republished in 2008 with a bigger, better format, larger font; it’s more readable and has the advantage of seven years worth of updates. This monster now clocks in at 613 pages. Garry’s original introduction has been dropped but a handy Table Of contents has been added. There are still some black and white photos scattered about the book. The cover art has changed with an awesome hair-whip shot of Metal Kitty of the band Decadence.
This upgrade/update is very well done and is one of the best, quick reference guides in print today. Not too much more to add other than this is basically the reissue with bonus tracks! It is deserving of a place in your library.
