Shane Gaalaas
March 2004
Released: 2003, JunkMan Records
Rating: 3.2/5
Reviewer: Celtic Bob

Canadian born drummer Shane Gaalaas releases his first ‘solo’ cd. Despite this being his debut disc he is no newcomer to recording. Shane’s appeared on albums by Michael Schenker and Yngwie Malmsteen over the course of his relatively short careear. With this release PRIMER he steps out from behind the drum kit and writes, records and performs the album totally on his own.

From the get go this is a solid effort of hard rockin tunes with allot of groove. The crunchy guitar sound and in your face drum sound shows off his musical talent moreso than his vocal ability. Granted he is a good vocalist but it is not his strongpart. While the songs are quite good and rather catchy there are no real standout tracks. The whole album is good from start to finish but nothing groundbreaking or jaw dropping.

There is nothing that it really compares to despite being nothing really new. If you are looking for a disc that you can put on and just enjoy the recording as a whole then this could be your next purchase.
