Sesta Marconi
Where the Devil Dances
March 2010
Released: 2009, Metal On Metal Records
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: Luxi Lahtinen

Doom metal from Italy for a change. This Italian foursome Sesta Marconi has been around since 1999, and released one demo (titled BLACK SOUL STAR) in 2003 and one EP (RITUAL KAMASUTRA KITSCH) in 2008 prior to their debut album that has now been put out on Metal On Metal Records.

WHERE THE DEVIL DANCES, with its 7 songs, is song-wise a relatively strong sounding effort from these grooving Italian hippie doomsters. The band´s doom reeks of Black Sabbath (surprise! Which doom metal band wouldn´t be influenced by them nowadays, at least a little bit), Witchfinder General, Pentagram, Cathedral and some musical associations to some other bands can be drawn, too. Sesta Marconi´s weed-smelling 70s-tinged - and partly even psychedelic doom metal, is well made thoroughly, covering the basics for this type of stuff somewhat finely, I think. The songs on this record make me feel relaxed and free; like (almost) making me run around my apartment butt-naked, and yelling at the same time: "Legalise marijuana - I want to taste sweet pussy on my lips". Sex, drugs and doom´n´roll... Well, you got the picture anyway, didn´t you? ;o)

The songs aren´t anything you would not have heard before, but then again, why reinvent the wheel if it has already been invented. Sesta Marconi goes smoothly forward on all 4 wheels on their debut album, playing passionately and with big hearts. And that´s all they need. A very impressive album from them here.
