Sacred Oath
World On Fire
November 2010
Released: 2010, i-Tunes
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: Robert Williams

Re-activated metal warriors Sacred Oath originally formed in 1984 and went on to release the "A Crystal Vision" full length through the Mercenary imprint in 1987 before disappearing altogether until twenty years later when they released the stellar comeback album "Darkness Visible" through Sentinel Steel. Sacred Oath has returned to the forefront and remained active ever since.

WORLD ON FIRE the band's fourth full length, begins with the upbeat power metal of "Sweet Agony" a tune that sounds very Euro metal, with it's steady mid tempo double bass drum action and melodic traditional HM vocals. It's refreshing to hear a band being of the age group that Sacred Oath fall under that have managed to keep their ears keen to what is relevant in today's metal circles. After spinning WORLD ON FIRE it seems like this kind of metal would appeal to fans of some today's leading power metal notables such as Primal Fear, Hammerfall, Jag Panzer.

"The King Must Die" is a cool Middle Eastern tinged heavy metal gallop, very atmospheric and melodic in nature. "Sandrider" is an ambitious track as well, showcasing the bands ability to infuse their unplugged acoustic moments against their more aggressive power metal approach. What begins as balladesque quickly graduates to a band going for the jugular. Speaking of ballads, WORLD ON FIRE does have one in the form of "When The War Is Over". A track that vocally brings to mind Sebastian Bach's brilliant work on the first two Skid Row albums.

I'd have to give the nod to WORLD ON FIRE. An enjoyable listen for fans of US Power Metal or really Power Metal in general. These guys have definitely paid their respective dues in the metal world and you can really hear the results in the finished product.
