Sacred Oath
…Till Death Do Us Part
August 2008
Released: 2008, Angel Thorne Music Company
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Simon Lukic

Sacred Oath is another in a long line of underground bands that have made the decision to reform after many years in relative obscurity. They began way back in 1985 and after a couple of demos released the minor underground classic called A CRYSTAL VISION in 1987. I remember having a dubbed version on cassette and really enjoyed the Maiden meets Mercyful Fate feel of the arrangements. It was certainly a promising effort but as luck would have it, the usual problems that a band encounters (i.e. difficulties with their label, lack of success etc.) meant that Sacred Oath soon ground to a halt in 1988.

Fast forward to1998 and the band finally hook up again and enter the studio to record "A Crystal Revision” and with the help of Sentinel Steel Records release the album and in effect, resurrect the band. 2007 saw the release of Sacred Oath’s second album DARKNESS VISIBLE, which proved to be another classy effort which brings us to 2008 where the band has released its first ever live album titled …TILL DEATH DO US PART. Recorded on November 3, 2007 at the Keep It True Festival IX in Germany, the album is 10 songs long and is a great gift to fans and old school metal fans alike. A bonus video for the track "Words Upon The Stone" off DARKNESS VISIBLE is a nice extra and a neat addition for those who haven’t seen it before.

Anyway, the album has a great selection of past and present Sacred Oath tunes from classics such as ‘The Ferryman's Lair’ and The Omen’ alongside new cuts such as ‘Words Upon The Stone’ and ‘Queen Of The Night’. What I enjoyed the most about …TILL DEATH DO US PART is the honest live sound, which makes this is a true representation of the show. There are also no studio enhancements and this makes for an authentic listening experience which is what a live album is all about. The crowd has been mixed in a genuine way as well and it’s obvious that both the band and audience appreciated one another’s company.

…TILL DEATH DO US PART is a solid and highly enjoyable effort. If you’re a Sacred Oath fan then picking this up is no brainer. True metal fans that are looking for the real deal then this is a great place to start. It may be some 20 plus years since Sacred Oath first stepped onto the scene but they are no relic from past. …TILL DEATH DO US PART proves that their music is still valid and vital.
