Section A
Parallel Lives
September 2006
Released: 2006, Lion Music
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: MetalChick

Here arrives another great album of 2006. Progressive and melodic, skillful and admirable, Section A needs to be recognized as something not to overlook. PARALLEL LIVES is a concept record, the story focusing on a man's uncontrollable ability to travel between universes. The music, both vocally and instrumentally, is a great carrier for the shifting moods and situations that such a story brings about.

The first track, "Hunted," is one of the catchiest. It not only sets the scene, but also introduces the greatness that will hold throughout the album. With vocals nearing the style of Russell Allen of Symphony X, and amazing guitar solos that rival any well-known prog guitarist, they grab me again with "Dark Alliance," a ten minute tune at the heart of the album. They wrap it all up on a high note, too. "Beginning of the End" incorporates some eerie choir parts that sound like they came right off Iced Earth’s HORROR SHOW. It sounds damn cool, though.

One small strike against them is this: the lyrics are pretty cheesy. As this is a concept album, lyrics are important, and at times the lame lines can take away from the rest of the awesomeness. It's easy to get past that, as telling a story through a collection of songs must be quite difficult. Even without a story, they know how to put together a great assortment of tunes.
