Sacred Mother Tongue
A Light Shines... EP
September 2012
Released: 2012, EMI
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: UK Team

Sacred Mother Tongue have established themselves as one of the most respected British breakthrough artists in their genre. They have consistently delivered their own potent Rock/Metal crossover mix, never failing to impress a crowd, whether playing on the huge festival stages of the likes of Download and Sonisphere to the well trodden UK and European circuit.

This new release will come in two parts, the first of which is titled 'A Light Shines' and perfectly showcases the world class talent within the band with particular mention going to uber-shredder Andy James who is now widely regarded as one of the very best Metal players on the planet.

As quoted from industry publication Music Week - "This band have massive globe-bothering potential" - this year they will fulfill that potential! This EP is a taster for their second album which is to be released worldwide by EMI.

Fresh, powerful and very exciting these tunes come over with a huge energy and vitality. Guitarist Andy James is already widely recognised as a genius of his instrument. Though possessing a guitar virtuoso within their ranks this doesn't detract or overshadow the quality tunes of the band. Hard hitting powerfully driven rock anthems with catchy melodic choruses are instantly appealing and also retaining a gritty, raw, and earthy primitive power.

Standing alone with their own sense of identity, Sacred Mother Tongue don't fit easily into categories and genres. Fusing and traversing rock, metal and melody-into a satisfying package, I found myself singing these songs hours afterwards. The live track featured here "The City is Crying" successfully conveys the energy of the bands live performance. Production is as crisp and sharp on the three studio songs as the live number. Definitely a band I would like to hear more of.
