Released: 2011, Sony Music

Back in 2010 the Scorpions released what was to be their final album; STING IN THE TAIL and then embarked on the massive Get Your Sting And Blackout World Tour. Now at the end of 2011 they release COMEBLACK which is re-recordings of 7 of their biggest hits plus a few cover tunes. All I have to say is...Why?
Sometimes a band re-records their music due to publishing issues and at times it has been used in an attempt to erase history and to avoid paying royalties to a musician. Hopefully with this release it is due to publishing. With that said the songs are quite close to the originals which leads me to think it was to help with publishing. They are very well done and sound great.
The second part of this disc is cover tunes. I am not one for cover songs (or re-recording your old music) but they do a decent job. I enjoyed hearing them do “Children Of The Revolution” by one of my personal favorite bands; T.Rex. They also do “Tainted Love” which was made popular in the early 80’s by Soft Cell but it was originally done back in the 60’s by Gloria Jones who was Marc Bolan of T.Rex’s longtime girlfriend in the 70’s. They also do a decent cover of The Kinks’ “All Day And All Of The Night’ and Small Faces’ “Tin Soldier”.
An interesting CD but it would have been much more welcomed if had of been a disc of all new studio material.
