This is yet another re-mastered re-release from MTM Music and behind Sabu we have Paul Sabu – lead vocalist and guitarist. He has also produced, mixed and written songs and played with acts like Alice Cooper, Lee Aaron, John Waite and W.A.S.P amongst others. HEARTBREAK was originally released 1985 and Paul says that this album was the first he produced and engineered by himself and it will always have a special place in his heart.
Sabu is apparently a sucker for melodic hardrock a la 80s style because that is what HEARTBREAK is jammed with. Mainly we have an awful lot of keyboardplay that sometimes is interrupted by guitar play (thank god). The most welcomed surprise with this album is Mr. Sabu’s great lead vocals on all the 13 tracks, originally there were 10 tracks but he added three bonustracks himself. Another good thing is that he isn’t stuck in the constant love theme that always seems to ruin the artists in this genre. As a whole the album feels pretty OK except for the songs that blend together.
The bonus tracks add nothing to the album in particular and could just as well have been left behind. The production sounds static and the thick keyboard layer sounds low budget, his is way too melodic and 80s for me and this album should only be bought by Sabu fans.
