Spiritual Beggars
June 2002
Released: 2002, Regain Records
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

Re-released-year 2002

Spice: lead vocals, bass and guitar

Ludwig Witt: drums

Michael Amott: lead and rythm guitar

Spiritual Beggars’ album was originally recorded in 1993-1994. The original record had only six tracks. I find that shabby. On this re-release there are ten songs, and it feels more like a real record.

My favorite songs are: ”Yearly Dying”,”The space in-between”,”Under Silence”, the ballad ”Magnificent Obsession,” and the bonus tracks ”Blind Mountain” and ”If You Should Leave.”

The band plays stoner rock/old hard rock, and it is still going strong. Michael Amott impresses on guitar in any type of style (Carcass, Arch Enemy.) He is a great guitar hero, in my opinion, and there are few players who can take him. Everybody in the band, however, contributed with both lyrics and music.

This is a powerful debut! I am not a big lover of this type of music, generally speaking, but this works--and I am a big fan of Mr. Amott.
