Mask of Damnation
August 2004
Released: 2003, Sound Riot Records
Rating: 1.0/5
Reviewer: Lord of the Wasteland

Please God…kill me now!! If I have to sit through another one of these third-rate neo-classical power metal bands like Finland’s Requiem, I’ll throw myself in front of a bus. The melodramatic vocals and cheesy lyrics market is all wrapped up by Rhapsody and they do it well. The last thing anyone needs is a band that blends that with Dream Theater prog and half-baked riffs. I found myself hoping that MASK OF DAMNATION would get better but alas, it does not. The songs are almost all over five minutes in length so the agony is especially drawn out, like the Chinese water torture. Jouni Nikula’s vocals sound like a cat with its tail being stepped on and his attempt at harmonies fall like a lead balloon. The only good thing I can say about the music is that the keyboardist has some seriously fast fingers. Other than that…you’ve been warned.
