This Swedish trio – fronted by former Paganizer / Ribspreader mainman Rogga Johansson, draw their inspiration from the horror/gore movies of the 1980s – immediately drawing comparison with a number of earlier DM outfits – and have a self-proclaimed mission to make death metal (“plagued by rap, emo and fake boring brutality’, to quote their bio) which is “truly pure and ugly, rotting, putrid and get back to the basics of what all this madness is about anyway…”



Do they succeed? Well, partly. Their sound certainly evinces and recalls that of DM legends such as Bolt Thrower, Autopsy and Dismember, and their honest, old school approach works well – but, therein lies the major problem: it’s all very derivative and stuck in the past… and all very samey.

It’s all very well harkening back to the glories of the past, but merely retracing the steps of those who have gone before, without bringing something new to the musical map does not help a genre to survive and evolve.



Yes, there are some really good moments – ‘Ravenous Alien Spawn’ and ‘Psychoplasmics’ certainly succeed in delivering the goods to great effect, the former especially recalling the likes of Cannibal Corpse and Death in its intensity – but overall there is nothing here that makes me want to revisit the album…
