Reckless Love
S/T
August 2010
Released: 2010, Universal Music Finland
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: Luxi Lahtinen

Sometimes things tend to not be like they may look - and you may get totally surprised these days by what you see, or hear.

Reckless Love, this young 4-piece glam/hard rock act from the heart of many talented and known metal bands and musicians, Kuopio, Finland, simply came straight behind from the bushes to me. For the first time I remember seeing these young fellows playing at one little festival here in Finland in the mid June this year - at which Exodus was headlining, leaving me a positive impression about them by both how they sounded and looked onstage.

Then I kept on hearing this one particular song (“Beautiful Bomb” that is) being played in the Finnish radio constantly, and not knowing at all what that band might be in question. I was mistakenly thinking of hearing a song from some 80's glam rock band that I had missed back in those jolly golden times of glam/hard rock (to be honest I was leading toward heavier side of things music-wise back then, ignoring this whole glam rock thing nearly somewhat completely).

Reckless Love´s self-titled, 11-track debut album is – if only one word is allowed to use to describe it, stunning. Stunning in sense of turning out to be so mature, big sounding, and full of songs that contain so much sheer hit potential in them that it´s almost criminal to have it so much for just one album.

One of the first things to be noticed for listeners is that even if you might blame on them for a straight yet shameless copycatting of bands like Van Halen, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Warrant, Bon Jovi and the likes, they still sound very passionate yet very convincing with what they have accomplished on their debut album. Vocalist Olli Herman has a great voice, looking pretty much like a younger version from the Crüe´s Vince Neil or Poison´s Bret Michaels - and having some of that same charisma of David Lee Roth (something for all girls/women to be droolin´ over for sure, heh!) while the band´s guitarist Pepe surely catches many of our attention by proving to be quite a guitar virtuoso by his guitar playing style similar to Eddie Van Halen.

To me, Reckless Love sounds more like they are made to play at big arenas/stadiums rather than at small clubs. The entertainment/party level is huge; nearly to be touched by your own fingers – and when the band churns out such easily adopted hard rockin´ songs in the air like “One More Time”, “Love Machine”, “Beautiful Bomb”, “Romance” and “Back to Paradise” for example, it´s gonna be 100% guaranteed that your body receives the beat, without you even noticing it – and eventually you are about to find yourself shaking hip/leg/whatever other part in your body. There is no denying that this is pretty sinfully addictive stuff, and that was also noticed by Universal Music (Finland) who snapped them under their successful and caring wings (Special note: For all people living in England/Ireland: Be sure to catch them on an extensive tour in September/October 2010).

If something can already be predicted about Reckless Love - basing my insanely honest opinion solely on their debut album, this band will be conquering stadiums around the world within the next 3-4 or so years (as long as they are getting all the promotion they need). They do smoke big time, and will surely gain massive amounts of success for themselves within a short time - just no matter even if they have chosen the safest and most secure road in order to do it. Even said carefully, what a fantastic band. ´nuff said, I think.
