Rabies Caste is a new band with some unusual lineage: Israeli-Russian. It’s always cool to see varied cultures getting involved in metal, it’s just too bad that in this instance they didn’t produce a good band. Rabies Caste’s bio claims that they “conjure the haunting darkness of Neurosis and Isis” among other influences which, to my ears, is completely false. There are definitely Neuro-traces here, but Rabies Caste carries none of the qualities that make those bands great. Instead, all I can hear is a mixture of late years VoiVod, slow Fear Factory (not mallcore FF though), tossed in with some pure crap a la Sisthema.



Most of the disc resides in the slow to plodding zone, with a fairly open sound, giving lots of room to David K’s industrio-rasp. Nothing too noteworthy there. The music itself is a pretty tiring slog down the paths blazed by the above mentioned bands, with nothing really interesting to see on the way. I really don’t know what else to say about this album other than it didn’t connect with me in any way. At least it’s not mallcore.
