Experience The Sacrilege
October 2000
Released: 2000, Power Records Int.
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: EvilG

Pleurisy are 5-piece band from the Netherlands. I know little of the band's background but I am assuming this is their first CD. Experience The Sacrilege was recorded at Harrow Studios by Harry Wijering (Harrow R.I.P.).

Even thought the cheesy horror movie intros are getting old, the intro to this album was awesome. It's from the Exorcist (Part III I think, maybe not..hmmm...) After the intro the song "Mission Transformed" begins. The guitar sound here is nice and thick. My initial thought was that this was going to be noisy black metal but as the song played on the melodies burst forth. There's a little bit of an In Flames thing happening here, but fuck it, these guys are promising and they are only a young band! Up second on the CD is the slower paced (at the beginning) "Experience The Sacrilege." Bits of Carcass and In Flames are mixed in here again, along with other death and thrash influences.

This may not be the most original of bands but they are starting out with the right ingredients. I look forward to hearing more from them. If I had to pick one thing for these guys to work on it would be the vocals - more variety and the singing is required - it's absent in most songs.
