This band needs no introduction. They are one of metal’s finest or glam metal’s finest if you’d prefer. Having been around for over 20 years they show no sign of slowing down and can out rock many bands half their age. The showmanship and musical integrity remains priority #1 for Bret and band. You’d be very hard pressed to find a band of musicians that put on a show like Poison does and it’s captured here in glorious picture and sound.
Filmed during last summer’s tour in support of the POISON’D disc. This DVD captures the fun, the energy and the excitement that IS a Poison show. The music is good-time fun party rock music and you cannot help but feel alive and in a good mood listening to it. All the hits are there from ‘86’s “Talk Dirty To Me” up to selections off the new POISON’D disc of cover songs such as Marshall Tucker’s “Can’t You See” and The Romantic’s “What I Like About You”. It is during the latter that the video screen behind the band plays the concept video they shot for the song in almost perfect sync. The DVD itself is visually stunning as it was filmed by HD Net for an online airing last fall. Almost all aspects of a Poison show were captured in stunning Hi Def. A concert of this caliber deserves the full on treatment and should see a Blu-Ray release in the future. That would be ideal. One of the surprises is during the CC Guitar Solo, CC does a little tribute to Ray Charles with help from the touring keyboardist. This is way out in left field as it sounds so different but in some ways it fits in. CC then handles lead vocals on “ I Hate Every Bone In Your Body Except Mine” which apart from a trio of selections off the new disc is the only song played from their latter albums. All songs performed are from the first 3 discs with the exception of this and the new ones. Maybe next time around we’ll get a few surprises from the others?
Poison does it right with their first ever live DVD. They have set a standard which all other bands should live up to. The quality is exceptional, the music is great and it’s timeless. This is the next best thing to being at a Poison show…..literally.
