This 90 minute movie/documentary is not your average run of the mill film. Director Fabio Jafet documented drummer Phil Varone’s life for 4 years. A friend first and filmmaker second Fabio gains access to the behind the scenes world of Rock n Roll that many do not get to witness. It’s all here; the sex, the drugs and the Rock n Roll.
This film is more tragic than glorious. It shows Phil from on top of the world when he could have had it all except for the fact that the vices got in the way. His addictions caused his downfall but luckily he made it out alive….but broke. He lost his wife, family and money to the world of addiction. An eye opening experience that is brutally honest in it’s approach. At one point in the film Phil is in front of his computer looking at his bank accounts and seeing that he has amassed a fortune amounting to less than a couple of dollars. Another part in the movie he sells his drum kit to his dealer in order to pay the rent on his small apartment. A sad sight to see from an excellent drummer. Without spoiling the whole film for you there are some fun and more positive segments but they are few and far between.
A must view film for anyone in the business or thinking about getting into it. Definitely an eye opener.
