War Declared
May 2001
Released: 2001, Independent
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: Rick

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes Patton rises from the split of Steamroller. I reviewed the first Steamroller CD when I first came on board the staff and I was fairly impressed. Well after some internal troubles, 3/4 of the band have reunited under the Patton moniker and have unleashed a brand new 11 track CD of ass kicking metal. The band is now a 3 piece and consists of Jason Felger on guitar and vocals, Bob Watson on bass and Richard Scheidt on drums. Like their former reincarnation as Steamroller the guys again play some ass kicking hard rock and straight ahead metal.

"Patton March" kicks of the CD with some interesting lyrics based on how the government uses its people. The heat is turned up on the second track "War Declared". This is a smoker and Felger just shreds on this track. Guess that is where he got the nickname "Shreddah". The hard rock touch comes into play on "Be Alive" . This track is a kinda bluesy, AC/DCish mid tempo tune. "Hollow" is a laid back track that has a great solo supplied by Mr. Felger. The CD closes on a high note with the ripper "Leave It Behind". Another uptempo track similar to "War Declared".

Patton have created a kick ass CD with WAR DECLARED. After the demise of their former lineup the decided to go on with a new name and with Felger in the vocal position. He is a good singer and can only get better with time and practice. Patton prove that there is still good hard rock/metal being created by dedicated metalheads.
