Old Man's Child
In Defiance of Existence
February 2003
Released: 2003, Century Media
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

It has been 3 years since Old Man’s Child released their last album REVELATION 666 - THE CURSE OF DAMNATION. Since then the band leader, Galder, has been working with Dimmu Borgir. That is where Galder met drummer Nicholas Barker (Dimmu Borgir, Lock Up, ex- Cradle of Filth) and asked him to join Old Man’s Child. Together with his friend Jardar, Galder went to the famous Studio Fredman (known for albums by In Flames, At the Gates, HammerFall, Arch Enemy, etc.) in Gothenburg Sweden and recorded this album. The album is produced by both Galder and Fredrik Nordström.

The Norwegian 3-man Old Man’s Child wrote 9 tracks for this eagerly awaited album. Old Man’s Child play symphonic black metal but I think that there are some influences from death metal. There are also some calm passages and it almost sounds a bit mystical with the keyboards amongst all the guitars. It’s always a different experience to listen to Old Man’s Child - different as in really good. Galder has done a great job with this record. On “FELONIES OF THE CHRISTIAN ART” and “LIFE DEPRIVED” Gus G from Dream Evil/Firewind guests on lead guitar. The cover also looks great. It was done by the Australian artist Shannon Hourigan.
