This three song demo is a taste of something that could of become much greater, but will not, as it's a one off project. Odyssey is fronted by workaholic metalman - Dan Swano (Pan-thy-monium, Unicorn, Nightingale, ex-Edge of Sanity, etc.). On this CD Dan takes care of lead and backing vocals, drums, and keyboards! And guess who produced and recorded the CD as well as wrote the majority of the got it - Dan. Only two other musicians are present; Kenth Philipsson formerly of Leukemia on rhythm / keyboard and Rick Gustafson on rhythm and an ex-member of the fine Swedish outfit Memory Garden. Both are guys that Dan has known for some time and had wanted to work with. The reason this CD came to be is explained in the liner notes. Apparently, Ed Balog of Utopian Vision Music told Dan that he'd like to release something on his label by Dan. According to Dan he just "wanted to try to put together some quality heavy music and to use my normal vocals in a more aggressive way than I normally do with my own clean-vocal projects."

If that was Dan's goal, then he's more than succeeded as this is high quality melodic metal that sounds more like a full band effort. Upon listening to the CD's three songs ("I am Two", "I Carry A Secret", and "Amon Ra") the first band that comes to mind is Dream Theater. However, after several listens you will realize that there's more at work here. Mixtures of many other great metal bands can be heard as well as Dan's own style. Only minor criticisms can be made of this EP (besides the fact that 20 minutes wasn't enough). Musically it could of gotten slightly more heavy in places with something a little more furious and faster. As well, the CD is lacking in lead guitar (track three has an typical solo). This aside, this is definitely worth checking out for fans of Dan Swano and fans of melodic metal.
