Tears In Floods
Released: 2004, Scarlet
Year-end wrap-up: Each of the last few years to wrap up the year I have picked a theme for my reviews for December. This year due to the overwhelming number of CD’s that deserve exposure, recognition and commentary I am going to resort to quantity over quality. I usually try to give as much attention to each CD with extensive commentary however this month’s reviews (perhaps unfortunately) will be short and sweet and much more in the style of traditional magazine reviews where space restrictions are an important factor. (ie. Less detail) I apologize in advance to readers who expect much more detailed reviews. Please check the reviews archives as many of my colleagues have written excellent detailed commentary of many of these CD’s. I hope the large number of quick comments will help guide you making some of those important year-end CD purchase decisions. Happy Holidays and see you in January. JP
This is a fantastic CD in every sense of the word. Amazing songs, blazing solos, fluid and fiery axe-work…it’s all present in full-force on this glorious and majestic power metal CD. This new band can be compared in a sense to Sonata Arctica and Airborne which is a supreme compliment in my books. The keyboard sound is totally unique adding a very cool dimension. Did I mention fast? Fast solos, fast drumming, fast singing…everything! Crystal clear production accents the awesome voice of Carlo Faraci who reminds me of Bernhard Weiss from Axxis. His voice is high, clear and powerful but never squeaky. The guitar tone is thick and crunchy and every song is so damn catchy; they scream by and drag you into their vortex of metal like you are being sucked into a musical jet engine. Odyssea rules and it’s no surprise because they are an Italian all-star group with dudes from Labyrinth, Athlantis and guest Wild Steel from Shadows of Steel.
Tears In Floods is an amazing debut and sure to be in my list for best of the year.
