Sorcery of the Damned
November 2014
Released: Otob, Invictus Productions
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: UK Team

Chilean outfit Oraculum have certainly left their mark on the Chilean metal scene with their first EP SORCERY OF THE DAMNED. Here we see a band putting their foot in the door and not wanting to move it for quite some time to come.

On this release you will find some of the most raw blackened death metal available from south America. ‘The Vessel of Orichalcum’ reminded me a lot of USBM acts Sargeist and Amputator, which will please all the keen collectors of the stripped down material.

‘Primeval Flame’ is a slightly slower piece but gathers pace and delivers a violent attack on the eardrums. I liked how the band employed an ‘up and down’ approach to delivering their anger which made said to me they have a lot to offer.

‘Passage I’ is a fine instrumental piece with a slow distorted opening and ‘Endarkment’ brought the whole EP to a close that made me want to hear more. This release was a very impressive one and I think we’ll be seeing a lot more from Oraculum in the years to come, be it raw and jagged or melodic and mysterious.
