Opposition Party
May 2006
Released: 2005, Pulverised Records
Rating: 2.0/5
Reviewer: Luxi Lahtinen

Formed in late ´86, this Singaporean 3-some Opposition Party started out as a bunch of social misfits expressing their rage at society and the world in general through punk rock - taking their cue from early UK hardcore/punk bands such as The Exploited, GBH, Chaos UK, Broken Bones and many others from that era. Also, a piece of history was made as Opposition Party attained notoriety as Singapore´s first punk band.

And that´s enough about their history. As for the music itself on ZOMBIFIED, during the past years Opposition Party has adopted more metal elements into their sound (as it´s been informed in their band biography) and the music has become faster, louder and heavier which is also the reason why you see ZOMBIFIED reviewed in The only problem with this release is that it grows old pretty fast... or actually, way too fast, to be honest with all of you. When a band sounds like ´okayish´ most of the time, it unfortunately isn´t enough in my well-grown tree of respect and interest. And that´s what Oppostion Party does exactly on this 11-song effort; sounding ok, leaving ´please-impress-me-someone´ -feeling and that´s what I hate in majority of today´s releases nowadays. Don´t get me wrong, when I was a kid I loved bands like The Exploited, G.B.H., Sex Pistols, Discharge, Dead Kennedys, English Dogs and so on as they were part of my youth and they all sounded somehow fresh, impulsively energetic and highly unique in their own way. And I have never stopped digging these bands and they will always have some place in my heart for sure. But trying to achieve something by shamelessly copying some bands around you, doesn´t ever bring you the same impact and you are soon about to meet your own dead-end. And that´s Opposition Party´s main problem; their main intention has obviously been to hunt something good for them, but unfortunately they have caught themselves into their own trap in my opinion, having no doors left open for them at all.

A relatively interesting fact is Oppostion Party has already shared the stage with such international big names Megadeth, Biohazard, Nightwish, Holy Moses - amongst some other well-known acts from different areas of the globe, so at least they supposedly should be a very known and popular band in their own home country. Just too bad they didn´t do much for me this time...

Well, I´m not going to go on with this forever, but am surely going to state the following harsh fact: "Punk is dead... long live metal!" - at least in publications like!
