Nashville Pussy
Get Some
December 2005
Released: 2005, Steamhammer SPV
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

The married couple Blaine (lead vocals) and Ruyter (lead guitar) is once again back with their Southern dirty 70’s retro rock act Nashville Pussy and this time they have Karen (Hemi Cuda) on bass and Jeremy a.k.a. Remo on drums.

Previous to GET SOME, the band released LET THEM EAT PUSSY HIGH AS HELL, and SAY SOMETHING NASTY. The debut album blew the hell out of me but I soon lost interest in the band when I heard the following albums.

NP started out as a raw punk’n’rock band that could get any party started with their beer-drinking-friendly music, however feels GET SOME like a change of course. The tempo has been slowed down and the same goes for the punk influences. Today they sound more like a heavy dirty rock’n’roll act with 70’s retro hardrock influences with a large dose of Southern rock like Molly Hatchet and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The members say that they’re playing dirty, vulgar and very direct Raunch ‘n’ Roll, the first two things I can agree with but the rest is up to the listeners to decide.

NP entered a local studio in their hometown of Atlanta, in the US and in the producers chair we find Daniel Rey (The Ramones, Raging Slab etc).

It’s not that Daniel has done a bad job; it’s the material that’s too uneven to last through a full CD. The 13 tracks contain both original material and a cover of the Tina Turner song “Nutbush City Limits”. NP have also taken help from two other well known guitarists on that track, none other than Rick Richards from Georgia Satellites and Izzy Stradlin who handles the slide guitar. The most positive about that cover is that the band has actually managed to make it sound like their own song.

The album feels a bit too long but that maybe that’s because the songs feels pretty similar to each other.

Personally I think that the debut LET THEM EAT PUSSY is the band’s strongest album but I do think that also this album can get one or two parties started. If you’re a fan of the band then look out for the band’s forthcoming world wide tour later next year.

Killer tracks, “Pussy Time”, “Come On, Come On”, “Hate And Whiskey”, “Lazy White Boy” and “One Way Down”.
