Released: 2010, Avantegarde
Reviewer: Addison Herron-Wheeler
Nightbringer, the brutal black metal assault from the epic mountains of Colorado, my current home, have produced many strong albums in their day, including this 2010 classic. This band plays a ripping blend of black metal thought to be mostly found in Norway, but these guys prove that the sounds of the dark mountains can be found in the good ol’ US as well.
APOCOLYPSE SUN is their second album, and it stands up to the test of time in terms of the dark and brooding lyrics, occult imagery, and dark and strained sounds throughout the album. The cover features a priest holding an image of the sun, and the lyrics and sounds are just as mysterious.
This is a must-have if you love evil and layered black metal, especially if you are looking for some interesting American metal. However, if you don’t like the really heavy stuff, this may be one to skip over, as it likely won’t be for you.
