Neige Et Noirceur
Gouffre Onirique Et Abimes Cosmiques
March 2014
Released: 2014, Sepulchral Produsctions
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: UK Team

Every now and then I come across something that makes me go 'What the fuck?' This would definitely be one of those incidents. Neige Et Noiceur or to give it it's English translation 'Snow and Blackness' is a one man atmospheric black metal project from Canada, got all of that? Good. To be perfectly honest I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into when I pressed play on my itunes and to be honest I'm still not 100 percent sure what I've heard after listening to it.

It's dark and its brooding, but it's also a little disorientating as well. There are some really nice atmospherics on it, and the blending of those against the darker moments works well, I think its the drawn out nature of everything that provides the sense of disorientation, because it draws you in, slowly,in an almost hypnotic fashion, drawing you further down a rabbit hole until a song has you firmly in its grip then when you are under the spell, the songs ends and you are onto the next one.

This isn't an album that I would normally gravitate to, as I tend to like my music a bit more straightforward and direct, but there is something to be said about an album of this nature being made by one man, written and performed using only one person, its a testament to the nature of art, that one person can single handedly create something so dark, so menacing, yet so comforting as well, its an odd juxtaposition and shows a real confidence as well, and although this isn't an album I'll be reaching for when I want to get the party started, its definitely an album that has a certain artistic merit to it and that should be applauded.

For people that really like music that gets down into your soul and shakes you from within, then this is an album that will get inside your head, find the darkest corner of your mind and then set up came, yes its a bit avant garde and a progressive, but its also brave and should at least be given the once over.
