Malignant Monster
Welcome To Your Doom
January 2006
Released: 2004, Independent Rating: 2.5/5 Reviewer: Pataklysm Here's some death/thrash from down under for ya, mate! Sick of playing in other peoples’ bands, Jarrod Curley (ex-Malice Unity), and Cain Cresall (ex- Pathogen) started this project in 2003. Malignant Monster's style is firmly rooted in the death/thrash category, with some black metal influences in there (check out the black influence on the song, "My Rage"). Though not quite comparable to other Aussie bands in the category (Psycroptic, Damaged), this is a decent first outing for Malignant Monster. Cain's vocals range from a hardcore yell, to death metal growls, as well as a few black metal screams. Some solid riffs from Curley kept me interested on this short, raw-ly produced E.P.. The song "My Rage," a good headbanger with some catchy riffs, is my favorite on WELCOME TO YOUR DOOM. The solos are lacking on the album, yet aren't really necessary. The last song, "Turrets of Blood," starts off with a sort of industrial sound, while the song "My Rage" ends off with an Enslaved-type feel. Nice to hear something besides straight-forward death/thrash. The guys in Malignant Monster are looking for other members to join, as the band is intended to be a singer, two guitarists, bass, and drummer (drop them a line if you're interested at malignantmonster@hotmail.com). WELCOME TO YOUR DOOM is a very raw, short, and catchy showcase of Malignant Monster’s style, yet showed me what they were all about. I would be very interested in hearing a full length from these Aussies. KILLER KUTS: My Rage ![]()
