Must Missa
Martyr of Wrath
January 2010
Released: 2007, Nailboard Records
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: Luxi Lahtinen

Must Missa (it´s Estonian language, and means ´Black Mass´), this 3-piece blackened thrash metal act from Tallinn, Estonia, has always appealed me by their harsh and dirty sounding thrash, in one way or the other – definitely much more than reading any tabloids of the mighty Finnish press, talking about this and that ´famous´ ex-minister, or ex-singer, or ex-whatever stupid fucks ´almost´ did this and that – and making me to think seriously don´t people really have anything better to do in their life than sneaking into each other´s life. Are we really that bored? I guess we are then.

I am sorry for the aforementioned lines of my inner frustration and anger. Just had to get it out of my chest, you know – that´s all.

Now speaking of Must Missa and their 3rd album MARTYR OF WRATH a little bit here, too. How can we resist something that has something to do with the old musical heritage that thrash metal bands like Slayer, Celtic Frost, Destruction, Sodom, Kreator and the like, have left behind them when they were all considered as some of the greats acts of the whole genre? Must Missa have done their homework pretty well, and adopted bits from here and bits from there, from some of those old masters of thrash. Must Missa have all those chunky, frenzied riffs, killer spot-on solos, T.G. Warrior/Schmier-type vocalism, beautiful hooks, very masculine backing shouts, etc. - everywhere around the songs on their latest and (unfortunately) last album MARTYR OF WRATH. They simply kick ass – in every possibly area, and with a cool-ish style even. This is the kind of a thrash album that is easy to like and dig the hell out of it, especially if you were digging thrash metal since the first bands of the genre crawled out from their holes to the daylight back in early ´80s.

Must Missa was a really good band (yes - ´was´ because they ceased to exist 2-3 years ago). What a waste just because they were definitely one of the better metal bands from a country that I have lately fallen in love for different reasons. ;o)

Must Missa is dead. Long live their memory - and long live Nailboard Records for having their 2 albums still available though.
