Morbid Carnage
Night Assassins
October 2010
Released: 2010, Pulverised Records
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: JP

I’ve been listening to a lot of multi-part, elaborate, Power Metal concept albums lately. At times those projects can be bloated and pretentious and time-consuming to listen to, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. After all that sometimes you just need some ripping thrash! NIGHT ASSASSINS is the perfect anti-dote. Sick, dirty and mean, as well as nasty brutish and short, Hungary’s Morbid Carnage fit the bill.

This seven-song release (short album or long EP!) clocks in at 36 minutes of thrashtastic, headbanging fun. Original? Not really. Innovative? Not necessarily. True to the form? Yes! Face-melting? Certainly. Morbid Carnage are unabashedly ‘retro’, or ‘old-school’ or whatever other tag you want to slap on it, however, it’s all just killer thrash to me! Ya gotta love the band names and a frontman/singer/drummer is just cool.

The vokills are pretty damn raw, reminding me a bit of the guy from Sacred Riech and the singer of Obituary. The riffery is relentless and the whole things rips by at most excellent velocities. Everything is decidedly raw with a thinner production that benefits the sound. Nice cover art too! Good friendly violent fun. NIGHT ASSASSINS is a nice entry into the thrash game and one to watch.
