Bruce Moore returns with the follow-up to his FOR THOSE ABOUT TO COOK book. With such a short period of time between this one and his last it makes you think that PURE METAL is just leftovers from the first. This one is the same style and format as his first one and it is extremely easy to follow but suffers in the same way in that there are not enough photographs of the finished recipes.
For this book we get recipes from Erik Turner from Warrant, Jay Jay from Twisted Sister and many more great Hard Rock and Metal artists. After having this book for awhile it has given me a chance to try out some of the recipes and base the review on the whole product and not just the text.
As with FOR THOSE ABOUT TO COOK the recipes are very easy to follow and anyone with some kitchen experience should have no trouble following the recipes in this book as many of them are extremely simple to do. For the ones that I tried I found that they needed to have a little more seasoning as they tended to be a little bland. It may just be personal preference but for a Metal themed book I was expecting more kick and intensity with the flavors. The diversity of the artists featured no doubt attributed to to the broad range of recipes and flavors, they just needed that little something to put them one step further.
There are many interesting meals that you can create with this book and the good thing is that many of them leave room for you to add in your own personal touch be it through substitutions or just adding your favorite hot sauce. The biggest drawback is that it lacks photographs of the finished product. I really like it when you know how the dish is supposed to look when you finish preparing it as you eat first with your eyes.
