Morbid Angel
Covenant
March 2005
Released: 1993, Giant Records
Rating: 5.0/5
Reviewer: El Cid

This little gem here, is my all over favourite Morbid Angel CD, period. I believe it has something to do with the production and the feeling of simplicity that it helps to build. The album is fast, furious and to the point. The band shrunk to a 3 piece set and I guess this adds also to the stripped down feeling (yeah I know, a better choice of words than the “simplicity” I used above), Trey takes full charge of shredding duties and it shows.

I remember buying this the first chance I got and kinda sitting there listening to the drumming… yeah, it took a while to sink, it took me a while to fully appreciate what had been laid down here, but then it hit me. Flemming Rasmussen’s far reaching fame as a masterful producer could not be in vain. This could not be a mistake or a slip-up but rather a mighty testimony to creative geniuses brought together.

From a musical point of view… well, what do you want? It’s Florida style Death Metal with a twist, with Morbid Angel written all over it and if you need further proof of why you should listen to or just buy this CD, I present you with “God of Emptiness”.

Need I really say more?
