Miscreation
Debut Demo
January 2000
Released: 1999, Independant
Rating: 2.5/5
Reviewer: Nathan Robinson

Miscreation is yet another new name to me. This Australian band plays brutal death metal. Yes, another new death metal band. It seems almost impossible nowadays for a new death metal band to be original. It takes extreme technicality, superb songwriting, phenomenal musicianship, or just something very different from a new band to really spark my interest in them. So when listening to this debut demo CD from Miscreation, it is these qualities that I am looking for. Well, I am not finding them. Now this is not to say the band sucks, because by all means they don't. This death metal is brutal as all hell! And they play very proficiently, and the constant changes throughout the songs make them interesting. But overall they just aren't playing anything different enough to stand out in my large collection of death metal. I would say Miscreation is a cross between Cannibal Corpse's "Butchered at Birth", Gorguts' "The Erosion of Sanity", and Disastrous Murmur's "Rhapsodies in Red". Due to the rough sound quality and the immense distortion on the guitars, it is hard to hear exactly what they are playing. But from what I can hear, they have this type of music down very well. So does their drummer, who provides plenty of blasts. Their vocalist has those cupped-mouth vocals similar to early Chris Barnes (Cannibal Corpse). What can I say? This is good stuff, but not a necessity if you're a big fan of old-school death metal like me. One other thing I will mention about this CD is that the band photos, which are pictures of deformed infants, are probably the most disturbing things I have ever seen! If those are real infants, then what in the hell happened??? (One of these photos has been used for the cover artwork, which makes for a nice one!)
